Australian Government announces they will fund psychedelic therapy for veterans with treatment-resistant PTSD or depression
The Australian Department of Veterans’ Affairs have just announced that they will fund MDMA for treatment resistant post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and psilocybin for treatment resistant depression (TRD), where these are used in combination with intensive psychotherapy. Census data shows that there are approximately 600,000 veterans in Australia. Despite making these treatments legal a couple of years ago, they are expensive and this has contributed to only a trickle of users. This new funding is likely to increase use of these approaches a good deal and again spearheads possible similar initiatives in other countries.
