The U.S. House of Representatives passes a bill to decriminalize cannabis

On 4th December the U.S. House of Representatives passed a historic bill that  federally decriminalizes marijuana use. The Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement Act (MORE Act) was approved by a 228-164 margin. The MORE Act removes cannabis from the list of scheduled substances under the Controlled Substances Act and eliminates criminal penalties for manufacturers, distributors or possors. However, since the Senate is highly unlikely to consider the MORE Act passed by the House today, the legislation will inevitably expire at the end of the 116th session of Congress. Lawmakers will then have to start over in the 117th Congress and take the legislation through the whole legislative process to become law. The House and Senate must pass identical text of the same bill, and the president must sign that measure into law.
